[9:29]  1 tn Or “arguing.” BDAG 954 s.v. συζητέω 2 gives “dispute, debate, argueτινί ‘w. someone’” for συνεζήτει (sunezhtei).

[9:29]  2 tn Grk “the Hellenists,” but this descriptive term is largely unknown to the modern English reader. The translation “Greek-speaking Jews” attempts to convey something of who these were, but it was more than a matter of language spoken; it involved a degree of adoption of Greek culture as well.

[25:22]  3 sn See the note on King Agrippa in 25:13.

[25:22]  4 sn See the note on Porcius Festus in 24:27.

[25:22]  5 tn Grk “said.”

[27:42]  6 sn The soldiers’ plan was to kill the prisoners. The issue here was not cruelty, but that the soldiers would be legally responsible if any prisoners escaped and would suffer punishment themselves. So they were planning to do this as an act of self-preservation. See Acts 16:27 for a similar incident.

[27:42]  7 tn The participle ἐκκολυμβήσας (ekkolumbhsa") has been taken instrumentally.
